How Much Does a Carthage and Sidi Bou Said Tour Cost?

Carthage ruins framed by a curved stone arch in the vaults of the Antonine Baths

A Carthage and Sidi Bou Said tour costs from about $16 a head for a car and driver from Tunis, from $54 to $56 when a guide and the entry tickets are in the price, and $234 for a private licensed guide shared by up to three people. Most of the difference is what the price leaves out: the guide, the Carthage pass and lunch. The ruins and the village are the same whichever one you book.

The main differences

  • A good all-round choice: the Carthage and Sidi Bou Said Tour, from $56 per person with a licensed guide and every Carthage ticket included. You meet it in Carthage, a short TGM ride from Tunis.
  • The cheapest days are a car and a driver. From Tunis, $16 to $25 a head buys hotel pickup and transport for the day. The guide, lunch and entry tickets cost extra.
  • Entry tickets add about $7 a head at Carthage and $10 at the Bardo. The non-resident Carthage pass is 20 dinars and the Bardo 30 dinars, paid at the gate. Both rise on January 1, 2027, to 30 and 45 dinars (about $10 and $15).
  • For $54 you get lunch, tickets and a private car. That is the six-hour private day trip from Tunis, two dollars less than the guided Carthage tour, with about an hour at the ruins instead of two and a half.
  • Private per-person prices assume a full car. On listings such as the Tunis VIP private day trip the price per head falls as the group grows, so two people pay more each than the headline $25.
  • From the Hammamet coast, the drive is part of the price. The most-reviewed coach starts at $35 for eight hours, and about two hours of that is on the road.

Prices may vary depending on the day you pick, so the calendar below shows the current price for your date.

The tours we’d compare first

The Carthage and Sidi Bou Said Tour starts at the Salammbo Tophet in Carthage. It spends about two and a half hours at the ruins, working through six sites in the order they were built, then an hour in Sidi Bou Said. It is rated 4.9/5 from 76 reviews. At $56 it sits beside the $54 private day trip, which adds a car, lunch and the Medina but gives Carthage about an hour. If the ruins are the reason you are going, the extra ninety minutes with a licensed guide is what we’d pay for. The TGM train from Tunis Marine to Salammbo costs well under a dinar, and that is the only extra cost apart from food and tips. Our full breakdown of the tour has the route.

If you want a car for the whole day

The Tunis VIP Private Day Trip picks up at your address from Tunis to the Sousse coast, but not at the La Goulette cruise port. It starts at $25 per person, and it has the longest review record of any private car here, 4.7/5 from more than 850 reviews. Your driver-host gives local tips, not a guided history, and you pay the entry tickets yourself, so a day with the Bardo as the third stop comes to about $42 a head at the starting price. Our guide to this trip covers what the driver does and does not do. Cruise passengers can book the VIP Private Tour of Tunis instead, from $22 and rated 4.9/5 from more than 150 reviews, which collects from the port and includes tickets for children aged five and under.

Lunch and tickets in one price

The Tunis: Medina, Carthage & Sidi Bou Said Private Day Trip costs from $54 per person for six hours, with hotel pickup in Tunis, lunch at a local restaurant and entry to Carthage and the Medina included. You can add the Bardo as an option. It is rated 4.8/5 from 143 reviews. It suits a first visit to Tunis when you want one booking to cover the whole day and nothing to pay on the day except tips.

From Hammamet or Monastir

The Hammamet: Carthage, Sidi Bou Said & Tunis Medina with Lunch is the most-reviewed tour on the site, 4.2/5 from more than 1,600 reviews, and starts at $35 for an eight-hour coach day. The starting price is the transfer alone; the option with the guide also includes the entry tickets and a Tunisian lunch, and that is the one to book. If you would rather have a car to yourselves and skip the Medina, the private Carthage and Sidi Bou Said tour from Hammamet starts at $26 a head for five to five and a half hours, rated 4.6/5 from 42 reviews, with the Carthage ticket extra.

A licensed guide all day

The Tunis: Medina, Carthage, Sidi Bou Said & Bardo Private Tour is priced at $234 for a group of up to three, with pickup in Tunis, the northern suburbs or Hammamet. For three people that is $78 each, or $95 once you add the Carthage and Bardo tickets. For two it is $117 each before tickets. It is rated 4.8/5 from 102 reviews, and the guide stays with you from the first stop to the last, which is the difference you notice most at Carthage.

More ways to see Carthage, Sidi Bou Said and Tunis — all bookable with free cancellation.

Where do these tours start?

Most of them start at your hotel. Tours from Tunis, La Marsa and Gammarth collect you about twenty minutes from Carthage, so a four-hour half-day leaves you the afternoon. The Carthage and Sidi Bou Said Tour and the Carthage walking tour meet in Carthage itself, at the Salammbo Tophet or an office near Salammbo station, which you reach on the TGM.

From Hammamet, Yasmine Hammamet and Nabeul, allow about an hour each way; our Hammamet guide has the options. From Sousse, Monastir and Mahdia it is closer to two hours each way. The From Tunis or Sousse: Medina, Carthage & Sidi Bou Said Tour collects in all of them from $21, with the guide and lunch as options, and our Sousse day-trip guide covers the long day. If you arrive by cruise ship, check that the listing names La Goulette among its pickup points before you book; the shore excursion guide lists those that do.

How the prices break down

Mostly by what is included. The sites, the free cancellation and the hotel pickup are much the same across the range.

Around $16 to $26: transport and a driver. A shared van or a private car with a driver-host, pickup included, and everything else paid on the day. The Carthage, Bardo Museum, Sidi Bou Said & Tunis Medina Tour starts at $16 from Tunis or Hammamet, rated 4.6/5 from 168 reviews, with the guide, lunch and tickets sold as options at booking. In this range the itineraries are close to identical, so choose on the review record and on whether you want the car to yourselves.

Around $33 to $61: a guide, and often lunch and tickets. In this range a licensed guide joins the day, and some listings start including the entry fees. The guided half-day from Hammamet costs from $33 with a licensed guide and hotel pickup, rated 4.4/5 from 81 reviews, with the Carthage ticket extra.

Around $88 to $111: smaller guided half-days. More time at the ruins with a guide and the tickets included, but no lunch. The Carthage walking tour costs from $88 for three hours on foot across seven sites, rated 4.8/5 from 46 reviews, and skips Sidi Bou Said.

Above $200: a licensed guide in your own car. Priced per group rather than per person, so the cost per head depends on how many of you there are.

The entry tickets most tours leave out

The Carthage pass opens all seven fenced enclosures, from the Antonine Baths to Byrsa Hill, and costs 20 dinars (about $7) for non-resident visitors under the national price list in force since April 1, 2026. It was 12 dinars before. The Bardo Museum is a separate ticket at 30 dinars (about $10). On January 1, 2027, the same order raises them to 30 dinars (about $10) and 45 dinars (about $15). A few listings still quote €4 to €5 a site, which is below the current price. Carry cash in dinars, because cards are not reliably accepted at the gates; our Carthage tickets guide has the hours and the Monday closures.

Add the tickets back before comparing two tours. The Tunis VIP private day trip at $25 becomes $32 with the Carthage pass, or $42 with the Bardo too. The VIP Private Tour of Tunis at $22 becomes $29 with Carthage. The private day trip from Tunis at $54 needs nothing added, because the tickets and lunch are already in it.

Private tours: priced per person or per car?

Both, and the listing tells you which beside the price. Most private cars on the site are priced per person, and the price per head falls as more of you share the car. A few are priced per vehicle:

TourStarts fromFrom (per group)Group sizePer headRating
Hammamet/Tunis: Carthage & Sidi Bou Said Private Day TripHammamet or Tunis$96Up to 4$24 for four4.4 · 22

Tunis Medina, Carthage, Sidi Bou Said shore excursionLa Goulette cruise port$469Up to 10About $47 for ten4.8 · 12

The $96 car from Hammamet or Tunis comes with a driver and no guide, so four people pay $24 each, or $31 with the Carthage ticket. The $234 tour is the only one here with a licensed guide all day; for three people it comes to $95 each with both tickets, $41 more than the $54 private day trip, which already includes lunch and tickets. The port excursion has only 12 reviews so far, and with four passengers it works out at about $117 each.

What the starting price assumes

The price on each listing is the lowest one on sale. On tours sold with options, that is the cheapest option: transport only on the $16 Tunis day and the $35 Hammamet coach, car and driver only on the $61 Hammamet day trip. On private cars priced per person, it is usually the price when the car is full, so a couple or a solo traveller pays more per head. Enter your real group size and the options you want in the calendar before you compare.

Tours that offer less for the price

The half-day from Tunis at $111 (4.6/5 from 88 reviews) includes hotel pickup, the tickets and a guide for four hours. The Carthage and Sidi Bou Said Tour costs $55 less with the tickets and a licensed guide, though you make your own way to Carthage, and the private day trip at $54 adds lunch and the Medina. Book the half-day only if hotel pickup in Tunis matters more to you than the price.

Some listings carry thin or weak review records. The La Goulette shared guided tour costs from $43 and is rated 3.5/5 from 21 reviews, and the Ancient Carthage and Sidi Bou Said Tour with Lunch costs from $91 and is rated 3.1/5 from 13 reviews. Both cost more than better-rated tours covering the same sites.

Should you pay more?

Pay more if you want a licensed guide at Carthage, where the ruins are thinly labelled and spread over two kilometres, or if you want lunch and tickets settled in one booking. Don’t pay more for the sites themselves: the cheapest car and driver stops at the same gates, and you pay the same 20 dinars there.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a Carthage and Sidi Bou Said tour cost?

From about $16 per person for transport and a driver from Tunis, with the guide, lunch and tickets extra. Tours with a guide and the tickets included start at $54 to $56 per person, and a private licensed guide costs $234 for a group of up to three.

Is the Carthage entrance fee included in the tour price?

On some tours. The Carthage and Sidi Bou Said Tour, the Carthage walking tour, the half-day from Tunis and the private day trip from Tunis include it; most of the cheaper days do not. Add 20 dinars (about $7) per person, paid in cash at the gate.

How much will the Carthage ticket cost in 2027?

From January 1, 2027, the non-resident Carthage pass rises from 20 to 30 dinars (about $10), and the Bardo Museum from 30 to 45 dinars (about $15). The rise is set by the same national order that introduced the April 2026 prices.

Is a private Carthage tour more expensive than a group tour?

Not always. Several private cars are priced per person from $22 to $26, which falls as the group grows. A private tour with a licensed guide all day costs $234 for up to three people, about $78 each for three.

What does a tour from Hammamet cost?

The most-reviewed coach from Hammamet starts at $35 for eight hours, transfer only, with the guide, tickets and lunch on a dearer option. A guided half-day starts at $33 and a private car at $26 per person, both with the Carthage ticket extra.
